The False Promise of Ageless Aging

Falsehood is invariably the child of fear in one form or another.

Aging in Place

I have been struggling with the realities of the marketplace concerning aging. When individuals are willing to sell false promises such as “ageless aging,” and the public falls for this, it’s discouraging. Gerontophobia (fear of aging) is a theme in our youth obsessed culture and there are individuals all too willing to exploit that fear.

I am happy to report not all in the field of aging are willing to compromise truth telling.

Respected Thinker in the Field of Aging Studies

I posed the question to someone I respect in the field; this person literally wrote the textbooks on Gerontology I studied as an undergraduate.

The Question:

What do you think of the term “Ageless Aging?”

*Their Answer:

It’s an illusion, a false promise. Biogerontologists don’t truly understand
what aging means at the biological level. Anti-Aging medicine is a hoax
and a deception. There are more M.D.’s who are members of the
American Society of Anti-Aging Medicine than there are board-certified
geriatricians (dramatically different number). Follow the money and
you see the explanation.

I had my thoughts/feelings on the matter supported by one of the country’s leading experts on the topic of Aging.

Please don’t engage in this kind of marketing. There is a short-term gain for the few and Longterm cost to the rest of us.

Other marketing terms designed to skirt around the realities of aging; ” anti-aging” “aging backwards.” Aging will go on despite all of our efforts against it. Aging well within one’s age to me is a more authentic view and doesn’t set up the individual for disappointment when despite all the tips and tricks, they still get old.
