10 Signs You Might be Aging in Place

How do you know if you’re aging in place? A question that was posed to me recently.

Here are a few possible hints (tongue in cheek):

1. You’ve had your50th Birthday (AARP has started sending you stuff–smile)
2. Most of your neighbors are younger than you are
3. You’ve seen multiple families come and go (you’re staying)
4. Love your neighbors (developed relationships over time)
5. You’ve remodeled/upgraded at least once (fixing to stay)
6. You feel a part of the community (sense of place attachment)
7. Think of “home” as forever (long-term commitment)
8. Children are gone (empty nest)
9. You have at least one or two rooms you don’t use (kids room shrine or storage for excess stuff)
10. You’ve changed but your home hasn’t (Peter Pan Housing for people who think they will never grow old)
