Welcome, my name is Patrick Roden creator of aginginplace.com
My interest in aging began early as I crawled around the floors of the nursing home where my grandmother was the head nurse. This imprinting set me on course to become a nurse and spend over two decades taking care of patients and their families; and now focusing on environmental gerontology.
In 2000 I purchased the domain aginginplace.com with the goal of creating a global resource for people who desire aging in the safety and comfort of home (wherever they call home).
After decades of practical experience in the medical profession helping others, I pursued academic study in the field of gerontology—specifically “critical gerontology” (what goes right with aging). And in late 2007 I began creating the website you are now visiting.
Goals of aginginplace.com
1. What: Answer the question; “What is aging in place?” by defining, explaining and giving you the key ingredients.
2. Why: Provide insights on why aging in place is key to successful aging; giving emotional and practical reasons.
3. How: Give concrete information on the how-to of home modification and where to find help if needed.
The Site: Provides content that is useful and relevant to live your best life at home: Keep it Simple is our goal.
The blog: Focused on entertaining and delighting you while keeping you informed on topics about aging in place and successful aging.
Shopping: Knowing the what-why-and how of aging-in-place can make you a better consumer of products and services to help you (or a loved one) remain living at home.
Keeping the dream of aging in place alive is not always feasible; regardless of know-how or access to products and services. I created this web site to give you the BEST chance possible. My wish for you and your loved ones is to remain home by choice.
